The new firmware is to prepare the Xbox 360 for use with the new XGD3 disc standard, which adds 1GB of useable data to 360 DVDs.
Microsoft have urged those who have problems with the firmware upgrade either during the beta phase, or when it goes live to get in touch at www.xbox.com/support/contact so they can verify if your console has been impacted.
If your Xbox 360 has been impacted by the new firmware upgrade, microsoft will replace your old Xbox 360 with a brand new Xbox 360 S with a 250GB hard drive and a years free Gold subscription.
