Sony have confirmed that they are to introduce an online pass system for select copies of their games starting with Resistance 3 this September. The online pass is a single-use registration code which grants gamer's access to the games full online features, which is being introduced to combat the sales of used games. 


Those who wish to play used games which require the online pass will have to purchase a new one at an additional cost, no details of the cost of the online pass have yet been revealed.


In a statement from sony they said:


"This program will be game-specific. Games that are a part of this program will include a single-use registration code that grants the account holder redeeming the code full online access for that title."


“This is an important initiative as it allows us to accelerate our commitment to enhancing premium online services across our first party game portfolio."
