Grand Theft Auto 5 set in Los Santos, multiplayer confirmed

In the official announcement for Grand Theft Auto 5, Rockstar have revealed that the latest installment of the Grand Theft Auto franchise will be set in Los Santos and surrounding hills, countryside and beaches and will feature a online multiplayer mode.

Los Santos first made an appearance in Grand Theft Auto San Andreas back in 2004 on the PS2 and comprises of landmarks reminiscent of Los Angeles and its California surroundings, including Hollywood (Vinewood), rural hills, valleys and Mount Chiliad. It is still unknown if the two other surrounding cities from San Andreas, San Fierro (San Francisco) and Las Venturas (Las Vegas) will return. However the focus on Los Santos mirrors the strategy used in the first trailer (below) for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas which depicted the version of Los Santos in that game.

The announcement calls Grand Theft Auto 5 "The largest and most ambitious game Rockstar has yet created." and features "A bold new direction in open-world freedom, storytelling, mission-based gameplay and online multiplayer"

Additional features revealed in the trailer included golf, planes, jetskis, and a working gym.
