Smaller, lighter PlayStation 3 launching this September

Sony has today revealed that a new smaller and lighter PlayStation 3 will be available to purchase this September. The new PlayStation 3 model will be 25 per cent smaller and 20 per cent lighter than the current model.

In Europe the new PS3 comes with a whopping 500GB of storage and will be closely followed by a wallet-friendly 12GB version. The 500GB will launch on September 28th as a bundle with FIFA 13 for around €299.99. The 12GB model, priced at around €229.99, will launch as a standalone this October 12th. Owners of the 12GB model will be able to connect a 5 inch SATA internal hard drive with use of an official Mounting Bracket, or opt for purchase of an official PlayStation 250GB internal HDD.

In North America the new PS3 will be available as a 500GB and 250GB model. The 250GB model will be available for $269.99 on September 25th as part of a limited edition bundle featuring Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception: Game of the Year Edition and a voucher for more than $30 worth of bonus digital content for, Dust 514. The 500GB model will be released as a standalone on October 30th for $299.
