2K and Irrational Games announced today that BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode Two is downloadable in all available territories on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and Windows PC starting today.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode Two, developed from the ground up by Irrational Games, is the final content pack for the award-winning BioShock Infinite, and features Elizabeth in a film noir-style story that provides players with a different perspective on the BioShock universe.

“I think the work the team did on this final chapter speaks for itself,” said Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games. “We built something that is larger in scope and length, and at the same time put the player in Elizabeth’s shoes. This required overhauling the experience to make the player see the world and approach problems as Elizabeth would: leveraging stealth, mechanical insight, new weapons and tactics. The inclusion of a separate 1998 Mode demands the player complete the experience without any lethal action. BioShock fans are going to plotz.”

Irrational may be "winding down", but they still have one final flourish before bowing out. Burial at Sea: Episode 2 is the final piece of Bioshock Infinite DLC, and will give players the chance to inhabit the tear-opening, coin-tossing Elizabeth. As an example of how differently the game's new protagonist will play, Irrational have also announced a new mode for the game. 1998 mode, like BInfinite's 1999 mode before it, is a "classic" difficulty designed to recapture the spirit of late '90s challenge.

2K and Irrational Games announced today that BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1, the second add-on content pack for BioShock Infinite, will be available for download worldwide on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Windows PC starting November 12th.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1, developed by Irrational Games, features Rapture as you’ve never seen it before - a shining jewel at the bottom of the ocean, built almost entirely from scratch in the BioShock Infinite game engine. Join Booker and Elizabeth in a film noir-style story that places them in a shining, pristine Rapture on the eve of its fall from grace. Explore the underwater city, try your hand at a grift or two, and even encounter some old “friends” from the original BioShock.

The combat experience has been rebalanced and reworked with a greater emphasis on stealth and resource management that merges the best parts of BioShock and BioShock Infinite. It includes a new weapon, an old favorite weapon from the original BioShock, the return of the weapon wheel, a new Plasmid, new Gear, and Tears.

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 1 will be available via online marketplaces on all participating platforms starting November 12th, and can be purchased separately for £9.99/ $14.99, or as part of the BioShock Infinite Season Pass.

The Season Pass, which is currently available for purchase, contains over £23/ $38 of playable content for £15.99/ $19.99, including both Burial at Sea episodes, the previously released Clash in the Clouds add-on pack, as well as the Early Bird Special Pack that has powerful weapon upgrades, exclusive gold weapon skins, and infusion bottles to upgrade player abilities.

“This is a love letter to the fans, but it’s also the beginning of a story that will give gamers a new perspective on the BioShock universe,” said Ken Levine, creative director of Irrational Games. “With Burial at Sea, we built a Rapture not from BioShock and BioShock Infinite scraps and pieces, but with environments almost entirely crafted from scratch.”

Still in development at Irrational Games, and also included in the Season Pass, is BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea – Episode 2, which brings gamers something they have been asking for since they first met the character of Elizabeth: the chance to see the world through her eyes and face challenges as she would. In this second episode of Burial at Sea, players will experience a new storyline, and a new stealth-oriented gameplay experience.

It’s been a long time coming, but the DLC that fans of Bioshock Infinite’s mind-bending conclusion have been waiting for has finally been revealed. Later today, you’ll be able to get the arena-style Clash in the Clouds add-on. Those of us desperate for more of Levine’s storycraft will be waiting a little while longer, though. Thankfully, from what I’ve seen so far, our patience will pay off.

Sony made a big deal out of the support during its E3 press conference in 2011, hauling creative director Ken Levine on-stage to confirm the feature. But given the platform holder’s silence in recent weeks, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the option hadn’t made the final cut. Thankfully, we can confirm that the peripheral is definitely still compatible with the hotly anticipated first-person adventure – but does it offer a viable way of playing the game?
