Crytek founder Cevat Yerli is frustrated. When Gamasutra asks him about the fact that Crysis 3 isn't making the same kind of splash as its predecessors, it's obvious that this is a raw topic for him. The original game sits at a 91 Metacritic, while the PC version of the sequel has an 86. As of this writing, Crysis 3 scores a 78 on PC. This, despite the fact that Yerli tells Gamasutra that the game is "so far, our masterpiece."

This Crysis 3 tutorial video demonstrates the features of the two gameplay modes available in the Open Beta: Hunter Mode and Crash Site.

Hunter Mode is an intense competition of survival, with up to 12 heavily equipped troopers paired up against 2 permanently cloaked Hunters. Crash Site is survival-based gameplay re-imagined, where two teams of players take control of random areas on the maps with the ability to use the environment as a weapon.

A Crysis 3 multiplayer beta will be available for download on January 29th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, EA has announced.

Open to everyone and available for two weeks only (until February 12th), the multiplayer beta will allow players to level up to rank 10 and customize their Nanosuit with different weapons, attachments and suit modules. In addition, the beta will feature two mulitplayer game modes, Hunter and Crash Site, and will also showcase two of the game’s twelve maps, Airport and Museum. Details of the two game modes featured in the beta can be fount below:

Beta Multiplayer Modes:

Hunter Mode: This multiplayer game mode is all about the survival of the fittest. There are two teams, initially comprised of two permanently cloaked “Hunters”, and up to fourteen CELL troopers awaiting extraction. Each trooper slain respawns on the Hunter team to prey on their former allies, building to a frenetic climax. If any of the troopers survive the round, the hunters lose. Whichever way you play, Hunter Mode delivers a heart-pounding test of strategy and survival.

Crash Site Mode: This multiplayer game mode is the ultimate King of the Hill type experience. An Alien dropship deploys a pod at random around the map. Players on each team must remain near the dropped pod in order to capture the zone and accumulate points. Each alien pod holds two shields players can utilize defensively as weapons. In addition, each Crash Site map will have a “Pinger”, a CEPH-constructed walking weapon of mass destruction. But be careful, other players can hijack the Pinger while you’re inside of it!

Crysis 3 will be available in North America on February 19th and in Europe on February 22nd for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.
