Sony has said that work on Driveclub continues to prepare for the launch of the free, PlayStation Plus Edition of the game, and that it’s definitely not cancelled. Following comments made by SCEE president Jim Ryan yesterday about how the PS+ Edition of Driveclub may never see the light of day, Sony has clarified that the demo is in fact still coming.

The rough launch of DriveClub last year on the PS4 has resulted in a lot of lessons learned for both Sony and the developers at Evolution Studios — and one of the consequences of that is that they’re just not ready to launch the free PlayStation Plus version they promised. In fact they may never be ready. Driveclub PlayStation Plus Edition should not be called a demo, game director Paul Rustchynsky has told the PlayStation community. Responding to questions posted on the PlayStation Blog, Rustchynsky revealed the free edition of the delayed racer will include 10 cars to race in one country, which means access to five tracks with 11 distinct variants.

Postponed PlayStation 4 launch title DriveClub will finally release on 8th October 2014 - nearly a year after its original date. Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida made the announcement this afternoon in a blog post that also introduced a new game director for the project, Paul "Rushy" Rustchynsky, a 10-year Evolution Studios veteran who previously helmed MotorStorm RC.

Following the delay of Evolution Studios’ DriveClub in Japan for the launch of the PS4 on February 22nd, Sony has stated to IGN that they will be announcing the release date for the game shortly. “The team at Evolution Studios are working hard to bring DriveClub, a truly next gen driving experience to PS4 and we will announce the release date shortly. We’re really excited about how DriveClub is progressing and thank you for your patience.”

Sony and the team at Evolution Studios have made the difficult decision to delay the release of DriveClub. This decision also affects PlayStation Plus members‘ Instant Game Collection for launch. To be clear, DriveClub PlayStation Plus Edition will still be part of the Instant Game Collection when it is released. For the PS4 launch, in addition to Resogun, Contrast, from Compulsion Games will also be available to PlayStation Plus members for free as part of Instant Game Collection.

Multiple reports suggest that Sony's PS4 launch game DriveClub has been delayed from this November to spring 2014. The rumour originated from an anonymous source speaking to website The Same Coin. A person said to be familiar with Sony’s plans then told Kotaku that the report was accurate.

PlayStation 4 racing game DriveClub's PlayStation Plus Edition is the full game minus a few cars and tracks, developer Evolution Studios has said. Design director Paul Rustchynsky took to NeoGAF to clarify a few things about the free version of the game that will be made available to PlayStation Plus subscribers on the launch of the PlayStation 4.

DriveClub isn’t running at 60 frames per second yet, but Evolution is still hoping to hit the frame rate in time for launch, the studio told VideoGamer.com today. When asked for an update on the frame rate at Gamescom, game director Col Rodgers told us that DriveClub is still “targeted 60 frames”.

Not all driving games are born equal. There are long-running arcade blasts, demanding sims championed by a few and played by almost none, and cartoon rides that shoot rainbows out of their exhausts. There are officially licensed chart favourites, promising much each year then delivering it the year after. And then… (puts on best Clarkson voice) there’s Driveclub.

In a behind closed doors session with TheSixthAxis last week, Evolution’s Col Rodgers confirmed that the game will support every wheel that works with the PS4. Hopefully that also means that current PS3 wheels will also work just fine, although that’s not 100% guaranteed.
