Fans of EarthBound got a big surprise this afternoon with the game releasing for the first time in Europe and North America as a Wii U Virtual Console title on Nintendo eShop. During today’s Nintendo Direct Mini, Nintendo also revealed that Nintendo Zone locations are soon getting StreetPass enhancements to let players connect with one another, and provided information about a number of current and upcoming video games.

Earthbound is available now in North America, with the $9.99 download including a digital version of the original's strategy guide that has been optimised for the GamePad. The UK Wii U eShop News tab has now been updated to state that the title will be available from 16:00 UTC, which is the equivalent of 5pm current UK time.
