The latest gameplay trailer of Lost Planet 3 shows a battle between a mech suit-toting Jim Peyton - protagonist of the game - and a giant Akrid. Lost Planet 3 is due to release August 27th in North America and August 30th in Europe for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.

Lost Planet 3 multiplayer will feature four separate modes across six diverse maps, pitting NEVEC against the Snow Pirates. This trailer marks the announcement of two of these modes--Scenario Mode and Akrid Survival.

Scenario Mode sets each team with a series of either offensive or defensive challenges and mixes them up with the extreme and unpredictable conditions of E.D.N. III. Players can compete in both third-person on-foot action and in first-person combat using Vital Suits, a futuristic staple of the LP series.

Akrid Survival sees two teams of three players compete independently of each other in a series of encounters against waves of hostile Akrid before the teams go head to head in a final PvP elimination round.

Lost Planet 3 will be available for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on August 27th in North America, August 30th in Europe.

Lost Planet 3 will launch across North America on June 25th and in Europe on June 28th for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, Capcom has announced.

In addition to the confirmed release dates, Capcom has also released a brand new trailer (below) which introduces the Snow Pirates and a new giant Akrid, the Carrier.

The trailer continues the story of Jim Peyton’s time on E.D.N. III as a NEVEC employee seeking out further sources of the planet’s energy supply T-Eng. During one of these missions, Jim comes under attack from E.D.N. III’s indigenous Akrid, causing his Utility Rig to fall down an icy fissure, leaving him unconscious and injured. Jim wakes to find himself in what appears to be a secret base, hidden beneath the planet’s frozen surface. On discovering he was rescued by one of the base’s inhabitants, Mira, the daughter of Snow Pirate leader, So’ichi, Jim realises that NEVEC are not the only human inhabitants of E.D.N. III.

"This is the closest that the franchise has come to my original vision," says Lost Planet's creator Kenji Oguro seconds before we first lay eyes on the surprise third entry in Capcom's extreme conditions action series. Capcom has today revealed the first batch of details of Lost Planet 3, which will be coming to the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 in early 2013.

Revealing new truths about the foreboding planet and the colonial history of E.D.N. III, Lost Planet 3 introduces Jim, a rig pilot who leaves Earth to take on a hazardous but lucrative contract on E.D.N. III. Working for Neo-Venus Construction (NEVEC) who are preparing the planet for colonization, Jim joins his fellow pioneers at the Coronis base and begins surveying the uncharted  terrain and obtaining samples of the planet’s energy supply – Thermal Energy.

With NEVEC’s existing Thermal Energy reserve running low the fate of the Coronis mission depends on the natural source of the energy supply being located. Realizing that this is a great opportunity for a huge pay-off and early ticket home to his family, Jim braves the risk of the treacherous environment and threat of the indigenous Akrid. Acting as a home away from home and boasting an array of tools that can assist Jim on the field, the utility rig provides Jim’s safety and is essential for not only his contract work but also his protection against the ever-changing climate.

Lost Planet 3 will deliver a diverse range of gameplay including on-foot battles and intense first person action. With a number of multiplayer modes and a compelling single player experience, Lost Planet 3 will delve deeper into the Lost Planet universe, uncovering hidden truths within the unique and dynamic environment of E.D.N. III.

A CGI trailer of Lost Planet 3 has been leaked early on the web. Although no details about the game have been released so far, the trailer confirms that Spark Unlimited, the developer of Turning Point and Legendary is behind the game - which is due for release next year for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
