Project Spark, Microsoft's build 'em up for Xbox and PC, is now available as an open beta on Xbox One. That means you no longer need to use a beta code to get access to the beta. Instead, you can simply search for the game on the Xbox Store.

After four months of public testing on PC, exclusive to Windows 8.1, Microsoft's game-making game Project Spark has jumped to Xbox One. Spark has all sorts of easy-to-use tools and assets to create your own fancy 3D games, and you can play other people's creations.

Phil Spencer, the executive in charge of Microsoft Studios, has indicated the beta for Xbox One game creation platform Project Spark will be available next week. Responding to a question on Twitter asking whether the beta would be available, Spencer said "next week" was the latest indication he'd been given.

Project Spark will launch its Xbox One beta in February, Microsoft has announced. The game-creation software is currently in closed beta for Windows 8 PCs. Its full release is due at some point this year. "Project Spark Xbox One closed beta begins in February," developer Team Dakota revealed on the game's official Facebook page last night.

Microsoft has released an intro video for the Project Spark Windows 8 beta. Users can now sign up and participate in the Project Spark beta on Windows 8. The Xbox One beta is expected to commence in January.

Microsoft's free-to-play creation game Project Spark will let you jump in regardless of whether you have an Xbox Live Gold subscription, representatives have confirmed. After the recently-released Ascend: Hand of Kul required Gold, it seemed likely that Spark would follow the same path, but community manager Mike Lescault has set the record straight.

Project Spark has been given a release date by Microsoft at gamescom 2013. A closed beta for the creation sandbox will debut on Windows 8 in late October, followed by an open beta for Xbox One in January next year. "Everything will be fully playable on day one [for Xbox One]," Microsoft Games Studios general manager Dave McCarthy told press including Digital Spy.

At gamescom, Team Dakota showcased several innovative features for future “Project Spark” creators through the reveal of the “Project Spark” voice and motion capture, which uses the power of Kinect to bring you into the game like never before. Players can capture facial animations, body motion and voice and sound to create custom character animations, dialog or even cinematic cut scenes.

The Project Spark development team livestreamed a hands-on demo of the upcoming game via Twitch last night and you can watch it above. Creative Director Henry Sterchi and Community Manager Mike Lescault are both on hand in the video and they provide some additional details of the game, including never-before-seen tools and levels. Project Spark will be a launch day title for Xbox One, the game will also be released for Xbox 360 and Windows 8 at a later date.

Project Spark was announced yesterday at Microsoft's E3 press conference, where its developers showed how players can use the Kinect to issue voice commands and Microsoft's SmartGlass to create and build different types of terrain such as rivers, grasslands and mountains.
