Skywind, the Morrowind remake in the Skyrim engine, is ready to download and play. Well, by ready I mean 'in alpha', "meaning you can move around the world, interact with a few things, but the full content of questing, gameplay and many other various elements are not part of the game yet", explained a post on the mod's website.

Imagine, if you will, a massive role-playing game featuring guns, time travel, and a nasty alien invasion, all built on Skyrim's engine, with Skyrim's "Radiant AI" system. That's Backspace, a project that was once under development at the studio Obsidian, I've learned from sources. A small team was designing and prototyping the game in early 2011, and although progress never got very far, concept art and design documents reveal an ambitious project that could interest a lot of people, if it's ever made.

Of the literally thousands of mods I've seen for Skyrim over months, this is probably my new favourite, by virtue of the fact it adds giant monsters, turning the game into a very Nordic Shadow of the Colossus. Each mythical beast has its own lair - a location on the map you can fast travel to - and each is enormous. There are giant crabs, giant fish, giant ice beasts and...giant horkers.

For the last year and a half we’ve been working on new content for Skyrim; from the game updates, Creation Kit, Steam Workshop, Kinect support, to DLCs. Parts of our team have also been in pre-production on our next major project, and that game is at the point where it requires the studio’s full attention to make it our biggest and best work yet. Even though we’re moving on, we’ll still have minor updates to Skyrim as needed. We’ve invested so much of ourselves into Skyrim and will never truly say goodbye to it.

Dragonborn, the latest DLC for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, will be available for the PlayStation 3 and PC in early 2013, Bethesda has today confirmed. The DLC will be released for the Xbox 360 tomorrow (December 4th) for 1600 Microsoft points.

"We’re less than 24 hours away from unleashing Skyrim’s next add-on Dragonborn on Xbox LIVE. It’s one of our most ambitious add-ons ever and we’re excited for everyone to play it. We’re also happy to announce Dragonborn will be available on PS3 and PC early next year." Bethesda wrote on its blog.

Bethesda have yet to reveal the release dates for Skyrim's first two add-ons, Dawnguard and Hearthfire, for the PS3. Bethesda wrote back in August that both DLC's were delayed due to a technical problem on the PS3.

Bethesda have today updated their website revealing details of Dragonborn, the next add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, in addition to a slew of new screenshots.

The Dragonborn DLC is described as follows:

With this official add-on for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, journey off the coast of Morrowind, to the island of Solstheim. Encounter new towns, dungeons, and quests, as you traverse the ash wastes and glacial valleys of this new land. Become more powerful with shouts that bend the will of your enemies and even tame dragons. Your fate, and the fate of Solstheim, hangs in the balance as you face off against your deadliest adversary – the first Dragonborn.

Key features of Dragonborn include:
  • Explore Beyond Skyrim – Leave the province of Skyrim and travel to the coastal island of Solstheim. Encounter the Dark Elven settlers of Raven Rock and the native Skaal, as you unravel the mystery of a Dragonborn’s return.
  • Become the Ultimate Dragonborn – Harness the power of the Voice as you face off against the first Dragonborn. Wield new shouts and spells including Dragon Aspect – allowing you to summon the inner power of a dragon to deliver colossal blows and strengthen other shouts.
  • New Powers – Discover dark powers as you journey into a new Daedric realm. Collect books of forbidden knowledge and choose new paths for your skills and abilities.
  • New dungeons, creatures, weapons, and more – Suit up in Bonemold and Chitin armors and wield Stalhrim weapons as you navigate through a myriad of dungeons. Battle formidable foes like Ash Spawn, Rieklings, and more.
Dragonborn will be available for download for 1600 Microsoft Points on Xbox LIVE on December 4th. Further details including the new screenshots can be fount here.
