Earlier this month I had a chance to speak with Rockstar's Dan Houser bout the impending release of Grand Theft Auto 5 and, as things wrapped up, I couldn't help but bring up Bully, a personal favorite of mine. It turns out the game is a personal favorite of Houser's too.

Rockstar Games parent company Take-Two Interactive has filed a new trademark application for Bully covering, among other things, "computer and video game programs and software." The trademark application was filed with the United States Patent & Trademark Office on July 25. A company representative was not immediately available to comment.

Bully was a great entry in the sandbox style that Rockstar have perfected of late – based on events in a school rather than the usual gangster environment that the Grand Theft Auto titles prefer – although Bully is currently unavailable on PlayStation 3 a recent ESRB rating has finally locked the game down for Sony’s console.

Dan Houser, vice-president of creativity for Rockstar Games, says the company “adores” cult 2006 title Bully and is waiting for the right time to begin developing a sequel. Houser says it's a matter of scheduling, telling Gamasutra that “we will see what we can do with Bully” after Bully developer Rockstar Vancouver has finished work on Max Payne 3.
