EA today announced EA Sports FIFA 14 Ultimate Team: World Cup, a free experience that brings the excitement of the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil to FIFA 14’s most popular game mode. The World Cup addition for FIFA 14 Ultimate Team will be available on May 29th for PC, the Xbox 360, Xbox One,  PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 via an automatic online update to FIFA 14.

FIFA 14 Ultimate Team: World Cup, a separate mode within FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT), lets players build their ultimate squad of players from all 32 National Teams attending this summer’s tournament in Brazil. FUT World Cup features all 32 National Team crests, the official adidas Brazuca match ball, National Team kits, the Estadio do Marcana stadium, and all new look and feel within FIFA 14 Ultimate Team.

Players can improve their team to make them tournament contenders by acquiring new players and consumables from special Packs in the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team: World Cup Store. Every FUT World Cup Pack includes a free Gold Pack available for use in the traditional FIFA 14 Ultimate Team experience.

FIFA 14 Ultimate Team fans will also have the chance to write football history. With Online and Single Player tournament modes, players can compete through the group stage and knockout phases in order to win the FIFA World Cup. By winning matches, players will earn in-game virtual coins that can be used to acquire packs in the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team: World Cup Store to strengthen their squad. Fans can increase squad chemistry by finding and playing with players from the same country or governing confederation.

In conjunction with the FIFA 14 Ultimate Team: World Cup update, a FIFA World Cup Kick Off mode will be available as part of the May 29 automatic download^ for Xbox One and PlayStation 4. All 32 National Teams competing in 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil, the Estadio do Maracana, and the official match ball will be available for fans playing on Xbox One or PS4.

Channon and Rutter also highlight In-Air Play, which allows for multiple players on the pitch to contest for an aerial ball.

EA Sports is developing a next-gen FIFA World Cup title, the publisher has confirmed. The title was mentioned by CEO Andrew Wilson during EA's investor call last night, and later by CFO Blake Jorgensen while discussing the publisher's line-up of next-gen products.

EA has released a day one patch for FIFA 14, which fixes bugs found in the Skill Games and Creation Centre modes of the game. It will also smooth over general "minor stability issues." Any EA Sports Season Ticket holders playing FIFA 14's early access version are advised to download and apply the patch before attempting to play.

The updates in the 'Legacy Edition' of FIFA 14 include new kits and rosters, but not anything to do with gameplay, according to a Nintendo press release. Although Nintendo's details are noted for the 3DS version, EA is also releasing the Legacy Edition on Vita, PSP, and PS2, indicating the same lack of update on those platforms.

Just in case the revelation that it has "ten times the animation" leaves you in any doubt as to FIFA 14 Xbox One's superiority over the Xbox 360 version, here's producer Nick Channon with extended thoughts on how current gen and next gen FIFA differ. Supposedly, it would be impossible to run the higher-end game's animations and Pro Instincts features on Xbox 360 without severe compromises to the frame rate.

The demo for FIFA 14 will be available to download today for console and PC owners. The demo features eight teams: Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Barcelona, Boca Juniors, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and New York Red Bulls. PC owners can download the demo right now via EA's Origin service, while Xbox 360 and PlayStation owners will have to wait between 10am – 2pm UK Time to download it

Leading videogames retailer GAME has announced its biggest EA lock-in series to date with 50 stores going into extra time to give gamers exclusive early access to FIFA 14, including hands on experience weeks ahead of the game’s official release on September 27th. The exclusive lock-ins will be hosted in partnership with EA Sports between September 8th - 22nd September.

The lock-ins gives gamers the chance to get to grips with the latest innovations to the award-winning game play and experience the thrills of scoring great goals.  The new pure shot feature and a brand-new ball physics system will transform shooting so every shot feels real and exhilarating, making  FIFA 14 more authentic and fun than ever before.

What’s more, GAME will also be opening up 300 of its stores at midnight on September 27th to allow gamers to take home the most anticipated football franchise of the year as soon as possible. Gamers who pre-order FIFA 14 on Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3 will also receive three Exclusive bonus packs - the Adidas, Historic Kit and Pro Boosters Bundles, plus Four FIFA Ultimate Team Packs.

Gamers can register for the lock-ins at their nearest participating store, either in person or by phone, or by sending their local store a tweet. Spaces are limited and customers will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. Gamers must be 16 or over to register and ID will be required for entry. The EA Sports team will also provide half-time refreshments and goody bags to all participants.

Microsoft has clarified that only pre-orders of the Xbox One Day One Edition will come with a free copy of FIFA 14. When it was announced at Gamescom that anyone who pre-ordered the Xbox One would receive a free copy of FIFA 14, it was assumed that this applied to all pre-orders of the console, not just the Day One Edition.

EA has today announced that Gary Neville joins EA Sports in a FIFA Ultimate Team (FUT) ambassadorial role for the 2013/14 season.

Neville’s role will see him contribute a regular bi-weekly column hosted on easports.com/uk/fifa - utilising his insightful and deep understanding of the game, he will be looking at the Premier League in-form players and teams as well as discussing the hot topics surrounding the world’s most exciting league.

England coach and the most-capped right-back in the country’s history, Neville was also recently announced during the EA press conference at gamescom as part of the Xbox exclusive FUT Legends content within FIFA 14. He will be available alongside some of the world’s greatest players including Pelé, Marco van Basten, Lothar Matthäus, Dennis Bergkamp, Gary Lineker and 33 other past masters of the game.

Neville said of the deal: “It’s great to be working with the team at EA SPORTS. FIFA has become such an integral part of football culture that I hope to bring benefit to the fans. FUT really is a phenomenal success and you can see why as we all like to think we can manage an Ultimate Team of superstars, I can’t wait to see myself out on the (digital) pitch again.”

Shaun White, EA Head of UK PR commented: “We’re delighted to have signed Gary for the 2013/14 season. His knowledge of the game is unrivalled and we’ll be working together to give FIFA 14 players a deeper insight into the real world of football that will enhance their FIFA Ultimate Team experience.”

FIFA 14 will be available on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and other platforms in the UK, as well as later this year on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
