Square Enix has today announced the launch of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn for the PlayStation 4. Already a major hit amongst critics and fans on Windows-PC and PS3 platforms, Final Fantay XIV: A Realm Reborn brings the classic elements of the Final Fantasy franchise to the online world.

Along with vastly upgraded graphics, this new version features PS Vita remote play functionality, which allows players to continue their adventure wherever they go. And with the PS4's Share feature, players can stream their favorite moments, and share memorable screenshots with friends and fellow community members. The PS4 version of A Realm Reborn also takes full advantage of the PS4's mouse and keyboard support.

The PS4 Collector’s Edition for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available today and comes with a special collector box and art book, special music disc, as well as six in-game bonus items. Final Fantasy XIV players that own the original Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 Collector’s Edition or Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS3 / PC Collector’s Editions will also be granted two new additional in-game items (Fat Chocobo Mount & Wind-up Moogle Minion).

Players who own the PS3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn can upgrade their accounts to the PS4 for free. Please note that, once upgraded, PS4 players will no longer be allowed access to the PS3 version. To play both versions, a player must purchase the PS4 version. Also, both PS3 and PS4 Standard Edition owners can upgrade to the digital-only Collector’s Edition for in-game bonuses via the Final Fantasy XIV: Mog Station. 30-days of game time is included for new accounts, with monthly subscriptions starting at $12.99.

Square Enix today announced that Beta Test Phase 2 for the PS4 version of  Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is now live and runs until 1:00 a.m. PDT on Monday, April 7th.

Phase 2 of the Beta uses the live game servers, so players can join other PC and PS3 players and use existing characters in the Beta. New characters and player progress created during this phase can be transferred at the start of the official service that begins with the release on Monday, April 14th. In addition, anybody that pre-orders the game (either the Standard or the limited Collector’s Edition) can join Early Access that begins on Friday, April 11th.

How to Participate in the Beta test:

Everyone who has a PS4 is eligible to participate in the Beta test for free (there is no need for advance registration of the game).

• On your PS4, proceed to the PlayStation Store and download Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (Beta Version). Once the download is complete, the installation will begin automatically.
• Start Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn (Beta Version) from the home screen.
• Log in using (or create for free) a Square Enix account and follow the on-screen instructions to start the game.

Square Enix has released two new videos highlighting the upcoming PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The release dates for the upcoming beta tests has also been confirmed today.

First up, in the new "features" video, players will get a sneak peek of the special features from the next-gen version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, including high-definition visuals, Remote Play via the PlayStation Vita, DualShock 4 controller touchpad support, player content sharing and mouse/keyboard play capabilities.

In addition, through a newly released “PS4 Conversations with Creators” video, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn Director/ Producer Naoki Yoshida shares his own positive experience with developing for the PlayStation 4, as well as his thoughts on the major, long-term player benefits offered through the console’s own advanced capabilities.

Square Enix has also confirmed that all PlayStation 4 owners will be able to join the Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn beta test at no charge starting on February 22nd until March 3rd. The second phase of the beta test will begin on April 4th until April 7th. Players who own the PlayStation 3 version of  Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be able to transfer their accounts to the PlayStation 4 version for free starting April 11th in preparation for games launch.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be available for the PlayStation 4 on April 14th, 2014 in both Standard Edition ($39.99) and Collector’s Edition ($79.99). The Collector’s Edition for the PlayStation 4 will be available exclusively on the Square Enix Online Store. A digital version of the Collector’s Edition will be available for $59.99 through the PlayStation Network. A free 30-day trial is included for new accounts, with monthly subscriptions starting at $12.99.

Square Enix today announced the new Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn 60-day Game Time Card, a prepaid card that allows Standard level subscription players to continue their massive multiplayer online experience without the need or use of a credit card.

Available at the Square Enix Online Store and participating retailers in North America for $29.99, each Game Time Card adds 60-days worth of game time onto an account, subject to account limits.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is available now for $39.99 on the PlayStation 3 and $29.99 for Windows PC. A free 30-day trial is included for new accounts, with monthly subscriptions starting at $12.99.

The PlayStation 4 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will launch across Europe on April 14, Square Enix has announced. Square Enix has today announced details of the unique Halloween-like event, “All Saints’ Wake” and more in Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

"From this Friday, October 18th through Friday, November 1st, enjoy All Saints’ Wake as the streets of Eorzea are decked with ceremonial lanterns and fanciful costumes can be enjoyed by all. A traveling circus troupe has made its way to the city-states, appearing overnight, as if by magic. Speak to these Shifty Thespians for a special Quest, but never forget that All Saints’ Wake is a time for tricks as well as treats." reads the official description.

Square Enix has also announced that the free World Transfer Service begins tomorrow (October 15th) until Sunday, October 21st. Like the name implies, this service allows you to move your character to the World of your choice. So if your friends are playing in a different World, this week is the perfect opportunity to arrange playing in the same World. At Tokyo Game Show last month, the latest Letter from the Producer LIVE was held as a live event for attendees. Lots of exciting new information was revealed about the next major content update that arrives later this year, including videos and further details on The Wolves’ Den that will serve as the center for Player vs Player (PvP) battles in Eorzea, and a video that showcased the addition of player Housing. These videos can now be watched below.

Alongside The Wolves’ Den PvP Battles and Housing, there’s a variety of other features and content being added to the game later this year, including the new Primal Battle: Good King Moggle Mog XII, Extreme Mode Primal Battles, new Dungeons including Pharos Sirius, Treasure Hunting, Hard Mode Boss Battles, Beastmen Daily Quests and The Crystal Tower that fans of Final Fantasy III will be eager to visit. More details about the content update including its title will be announced at a later time.

November sees the collaboration with Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII with Lightning appearing in one of the game’s Full Active Time Events (FATE), with special Lightning and Final Fantasy XIII-themed gear and weapons available for successful players. This special FATE is scheduled to go live on Thursday, November 14th. Keep an eye on further collaborations in the future, as Final Fantasy XIV will be celebrating the 11th anniversary of Final Fantasy XI and the first anniversary of Dragon Quest X in Japan.

Square Enix said players who purchase the PlayStation 3 version of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 4 version without any additional costs. Digital sales and downloads of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn have now resumed for Windows PC and the PlayStation 3, Square Enix has announced.

Due to unprecedented demand to access the game at launch digital sales were suspended on August 28th. The company has performed extensive server maintenance, increasing the number of servers for players worldwide, the capacity of players per World and the number of concurrent players. Following this maintenance access to the game is now functioning as originally intended.

Square Enix has announced that the beta tests of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on the PlayStation 4 will start on February 22nd, 2014. Furthermore, players on the PlayStation 3 will be able to migrate to the PlayStation 4 at no additional cost, when the game is released for the system.

"The FFXIV: ARR game service is now live on Windows PC and the PlayStation 3, and a PS4 version is currently in development. Essential work to increase the number of servers and strengthen the service environment, with the aim of alleviating the crowding on existing servers is also in progress.

Furthermore, those who are currently playing the PS3 version of FFXIV: ARR will not have to re-buy the game on PS4 and will be able to transition to playing on PS4 at no additional cost. They will even be able to carry over their character data and continue playing on the new platform."

Final Fantasy XIV: Libra Eorzea, the official smart phone companion app for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, is now available as a free download through the iTunes Store, Square Enix has announced.

The new application features a comprehensive game database that can be accessed offline, as well as a character profile viewer for reviewing gear and attributes on the go. Square Enix plans to offer additional features in the future, as well as an Android OS version, which is currently in development.

Final Fantasy XIV: Libra Eorzea contains an encyclopaedic catalog of in-game information, including items, quests, non-playable characters (NPCs), achievements, and more. With a host of updates in the works, the database will serve as an ever-useful resource for the adventurers of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn.

Character Profiles (Only Available for FFXIV Players)
Players with an active Final Fanasty XIV: A Realm Reborn account can log in with their Square Enix account credentials to review their character information such as attributes and gear. They can also browse the profiles of other characters in their Free Company, Linkshell, or use the search function to view details on other players and Free Companies. Moreover, players can even learn where fellow adventurers acquired their gear.

Sony is to issue refunds to all customers who purchased a digital copy of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn via PlayStation Store between August 27 and August 28 following ongoing issues with the game's servers. In an update on the EU PlayStation Blog, SCEE blog manager Fred Dutton confirmed that all Standard Edition and Collector's Edition customers will be refunded, with the funds being placed back into their PlayStation wallet.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn director Naoki Yoshida has confirmed that the reason the game will be the 'odd one out' and the only upcoming entry in the series to skip Xbox platforms is down to Microsoft's ongoing Xbox Live policies. "The policy has not changed on Microsoft's side," Yoshida revealed to us when asked if an exclusivity deal had been signed with Sony alongside the PS4 version or if the lack of an Xbox platform version was still thanks to Microsoft's restrictive Xbox Live Policies.

Square Enix has released a new Final Fantasy XIV developer commentary video showcasing the PlayStation 3 version’s user interface. In it director and producer Naoki Yoshida walks viewers through adjusting the game’s settings, creating a character, moving throughout the world, using the map and duty list, the cross hotbar, and more.

Square Enix has confirmed that the third phase of closed beta testing for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn is due to start on June 14th.

Beta phase 3 introduces the PlayStation 3 version of the game into the mix for the very first time and PlayStation 3 gamers will be able to experience the captivating world of Eorzea alongside PC players due to the game’s cross-platform functionality. Beta phase 3 testers will also gain access to a huge amount of new content, including the introduction of the city states of Ul’dah and Limsa Lominsa.
