Earlier this week we shared a rumor that Minecraft for Nintendo’s Wii U console was in development. Like many rumors, this one turned out to be a dud. Today on his Twitter account Markus Persson, known as Notch, tweeted “I am not aware of any plans to release a Wii U version of Minecraft.” He continued with “I agree a Wii U version would make sense, btw. The only reason for no current plans is we’ve got too much work already.

Software development company 57Digital Ltd, founded by Jamie Chapman and Luke Dixon - two Sheffield Hallam University graduates, are showcasing their latest mobile app to an audience of 10,000 at the Victoria and Albert Museum in London this Friday.

The company, who are official partners with Mojang, the creators of the cult hit game - Minecraft, will be running a workshop where youngsters can design a character using felt tip marker pens and paper. Then, using the technology 57Digital have created, the physical drawing can be scanned using an iPhone application that will convert the “real world” drawing into a character design that can be used inside the actual Minecraft game itself.

The event itself is free for all to attended and is hosted at the V&A Museum in London on August 30th 2013 at 6:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. The event boasts many different Minecraft activities, including talks from the game designers themselves.

57Digital started their company over two years ago and since have created several official Minecraft partner apps. Including their interactive character design tool: Minecraft Skin Studio app and Minecraft Papercraft Studio which allows the user to print a template of their own Minecraft character, cut it out with scissors and glue it together to produce a 3D model of their in-game character.
