SEGA have today announced that three Sonic the Hedgehog adventures will be available for the PC Digital Download market starting today.

Following on from the successful launch of Sonic Generations for the PC digital market in December 2011, the new downloadable Sonic Generations Casino Night Pinball Stage is now available, adding to a grand adventure with Classic and Modern Sonic racing to defeat the Time Eater, save their friends and find out who really is behind all these strange happenings.

Sonic CD follows the classic story line from the original 1993 SEGA CD system game with Sonic racing through time to save Amy Rose from his evil mechanical twin Metal Sonic. This super speedy remake includes brand new features and will be hitting PC digital stores for the first time today.

Finally, as an added bonus, the much-anticipated Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode I will be available, enabling PC owners to enjoy the beautifully rendered HD environments of the special stages and a variety of different Zones, all inspired by the Genesis era. The Sonic 4 saga will continue to grow in 2012 with the new side-scrolling adventure Sonic the Hedgehog 4 Episode II, releasing later this year for PC digital download.

Sonic CD will be released on multiple platforms starting today (December 14th), SEGA has announced.

The revamped version of this popular title includes the original Japanese and US soundtracks as requested by the fans, and, for the first time, the ability to play the game as Sonic’s best friend, Tails, unlockable by clearing the game for the first time. Sonic CD also features the first appearance of Metal Sonic, one of Sonic’s most enduring nemeses.

Sonic CD will be available today on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 (400 MSP). Versions for Android and iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad will be available today and on December 15th, respectively, for a limited-time, special sale price of $1.99 / £1.49 / €1.59.

The game comes to PlayStation Network today in Europe and December 20th in the U.S. for $4.99 / £3.59/ €4.49. Sonic CD will also be released on Windows Phone in the New Year.

The early/mid 90s was a confusing time to love Sega games. Sure, they were still pumping out classic software left, right and centre, but they couldn’t make their mind up about which piece of home console hardware they wanted you to own the most. The Mega CD was a CD based expansion for their trusty Mega Drive, which let you play many of the same games as you could play on cartridges, just with higher audio fidelity and price tags.

Sega have announced that Sonic CD will debut on mobile phones and consoles everywhere. The game was originally released for the Sega CD system in 1993, and included the first appearance of fan favorite characters Metal Sonic and Amy Rose.

“Ask any Sonic fan to name their favorite games, and Sonic CD always ranks near the top of their lists,” said Haruki Satomi, Vice President of Digital Business at SEGA of America. “Sonic CD marks an important chapter in Sonic’s history, bridging the gap between his oldest adventures and his new digital exploits like Sonic The Hedgehog 4 Episode I. Following the classic story of the original, Sonic CD sees Dr Eggman plan to cause chaos and take control of the future by stealing Time Stones from the Little Planet. Sonic must speed through levels and travel through time while fending off Eggman’s robots to recover the Time Stones, and save Amy Rose from his mechanical twin, Metal Sonic! This fast-paced game will return with brand new features including enhanced widescreen graphics, special iOS features, Xbox LIVE Achievements, PSN Trophies, PC Achievements and more.

Sonic CD will be available for download for the Xbox 360, PS3, PC and iOS Mobile Phones in late 2011.
