The new installment of the fan-favorite parkour game is still in the works, and DICE put together a new video that focuses on main character Faith, the revitalized free-running elements, and the accessibility of the gameplay.

Mirror's Edge writer Rhianna Pratchett has confirmed she is not working on the sequel, Mirror's Edge 2. In a series of tweets Pratchett, who most recently wrote the story for Crystal Dynamics' Tomb Raider reboot, said Mirror's Edge developer DICE hadn't asked for her services.

DICE's Patrick Bach has revealed how the studio managed to convince EA to sign off on a follow-up to 2008 fan-favourite Mirror's Edge, explaining that the key to getting the game green-lit was simply down to developing a good enough pitch.

The new Mirror's Edge game officially announced this week will feature an open world, publisher Electronic Arts confirmed this morning during a conference call. EA Labels boss Frank Gibeau described the new game as a cult classic and said it enjoyed a "great fan reaction" at E3's briefing on Monday.

A new Mirror's Edge game is currently under development for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, EA has announced. In development at DICE, it's powered by the Frostbite engine and is "coming... when it's ready", according to the debut trailer. Here’s the official description:

 Play through the origin story of Faith and explore the city with an unprecedented level of freedom of action and movement. Mirror’s Edge marks the return of the critically acclaimed first-person action adventure game from DICE. Powered by the Frostbite engine, Mirror’s Edge allows gamers to immerse themselves in a magnificent dystopian world and discover its darkest secrets. Experience the origin story of Faith and delve deeper into the inner workings of the city and the world around it.

Further evidence has surfaced for the existence of Mirror's Edge 2 after a help page for the game was spotted on EA's site. While the page only holds the name of the game and little else, it's worth noting that changing the URL to Mirror's Edge 3 leads to a dead page.
