Let’s kick off this Friday morning with one of the cutest weapons of war you’ll ever see – a Portal 2 turret that replaces its guns with flashing lights, but otherwise acts just like the turrets in the game. It’s manufactured by Gaming Heads and due out later this year – though in very limited numbers to begin with. If you want one, it’ll be $300.

"Steam for Schools" is Valve's next push into edutainment. This summer, educators can apply for beta inclusion in the program, which includes a "limited version of Steam" featuring Portal 2, the game's level editor, and its workshop for hosting and organizing user-created levels. This new version of Steam will be free for educators (in and out of beta), and will give educators administrator access – meaning that kids cannot share levels.

When Valve first announced an in-game level editor would be coming to Portal 2, I was excited. Not because I am the type to ever mess around with such a feature -- outside of TimeSplitters 2 I can't think of an example of a map editor I have ever spent any extended period of time with -- but because I'm intrigued to see what sort of test chambers others create.

Valve writers Chet Faliszek and Erik Wolpaw are two of the men who made Portal 2 very funny. They were at GDC today to talk about making Portal 2, or in their words, the process of "Creating a Sequel to a Game That Doesn't Need One." They had some evidence to back up the title of their talk, listing a series of quotes from the video game press that said, quite clearly, that the original Portal did not need a sequel and that any attempt to create one would be a fool's errand.
